Carla Rangel

Carla and Princess

Carla is one of our full-time veterinary technicians.  She joined the Foothill Pet Hospital (FPH) staff in January 2009.  Carla graduated from UC Santa Barbara in June 2008 with a B.S. in Biological Sciences.  She hopes that the valuable learning and hands-on experiences at FPH will help her achieve her future goal of attending veterinary school.

As with our other technicians, Carla performs many tasks.  These include assisting Dr. Rittenberg (Dr. Ritt) with examinations and procedures, assisting the other technicians with treatments and procedures, anesthesia monitoring, assisting in surgery, drawing laboratory samples, taking x-rays, running in-hospital laboratory tests, performing patient treatments, and maintaining hospital cleanliness.  And, as with all other staff, the most important part of her job is providing for patient comfort and care.

Carla is interested in learning about all aspects of veterinary medicine.  She enjoys coming to work every day because there is always something new to learn and interesting cases to observe.  Being an easy-going person, Carla’s mellow and quiet presence helps to create a calm atmosphere for the patients.

Carla is a Goleta native and has lived in the area nearly her entire life.  At home with her family is their adorable shelter-rescued dog Princess.  Many have pondered Princess’ breed mix.  Carla’s best guess is that she may be part Corgi, Dachshund, and Golden Retriever.

In her free time, Carla volunteers with two of the rescue shelter groups here in Santa Barbara County.  She spends some time at both the cat shelter (ASAP) where she has been a volunteer since 2002, and the dog shelter (K9 Pals) where she has volunteered since 2006.  In fact, her lovely Princess came from K9 Pals.  Besides spending time with Princess, Carla also enjoys traveling, reading, going to the movies, and listening to music.
